Do you take a rough approach to smooth skin? Now theres a truly better
way to remove hair compared to tedious and/or painful procedures such as shaving and
waxing. Palomars revolutionary SLP1000 Diode Laser System clears away unwanted
hair quickly, comfortably, and safely, with long-lasting results. Developed in conjunction
with leading medical researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Palomar
SLP1000 is the first laser to remove hair safely and effectively from all types of
skin, including Asian, African American, Latin American, and even tanned skin.
Hair Removal with the Palomar SLP1000 Diode Laser
The SLP1000 is designed to provide both maximum results and a pleasant experience for
the patient. Once the patient is sitting or lying in a comfortable position, the laser
operator gently glides the SheerCool laser handpiece along the skin. The handpiece
delivers pulses of energy to the hair follicles. This energy heats the follicles,
disabling them or even eliminating their ability to produce hair. Before, during, and
after each pulse of the laser, the handpiece actively cools the skin, protecting it from
damage. With Palomars exclusive Photon Recycling, light that gets reflected out of
the skin is captured and redirected back into the hair follicles, maximizing the
effectiveness of treatments.
Until now, treating persons with dark or tanned skin has been a problem because the
pigment in such skin absorbs enough of the laser energy to cause considerable side effects
and discomfort. However, the SLP1000 uses Super Long-Pulse Technology to make laser hair
removal available for everyone. While other lasers blast the skin with short pulses (about
3 to 40 milliseconds) of intense energy, the SLP1000 spreads the same energy out over a
longer time frame (up to 1000 milliseconds). This way, laser energy heats the hair
follicles and disables them without hurting the skin.
Older Methods of Removing Hair
Shaving:
Shaving is a simple procedure... but its also messy and time consuming.
Plus, its only a temporary solution, one that requires a constant commitment. (And
who needs nicks and cuts?)
Tweezing:
Ouch! This quick fix is not only painful... its extremely impractical for large
areas! And, if youve ever tweezed, you know that the hair you pluck will only grow
back again.
Depilatories:
Another temporary solution. This messy procedure requires a significant time commitment
and must be repeated about once a week. Caution: If depilatories are left on too long,
they can cause severe skin irritation or even chemical burns.
Waxing:
Waxing can cover large skin areas and may last for a month or more. Yet this procedure is
painful and can cause allergic reactions as well as inflammation of the hair follicle.
Electrolysis:
This procedure involves sticking a needle into each hair follicle and applying an
often painful electric current. In expert hands, electrolysis can successfully eliminate
hair. But because you can treat only one hair follicle at a time, it.s a tedious and
time-consuming process that is best reserved for very small, isolated areas.
