This is a very good question and one that we are constantly asked at Adlard Dental. For some of our patients, dentures are the only available option, while for others they
are a viable
treatment alternative. The important thing to be aware of is that not all dentures are created equal.
We feel badly when someone calls the office and the only thing they want to know is "How much do you charge for dentures?" We know that those patients will most likely end up at the office with the lowest fee. Many times they come to see us at a later time after they have had a less than satisfactory experience. (It reminds me of the $8 haircut story and the stylist that fixed them. Ask me to tell you the story the next time you're in the
office.)
No two patients' mouth, face, personality, age, or personal feelings about their dentures are the same. It takes a great deal of care and experience to design fine dentures that will improve both a person's appearance and function. For people who have never worn a denture before the surgery preceding the insertion of the dentures is a critical part of the equation. The dentist and the patient work together as a team to obtain the best result.
There is a great difference in the quality of the teeth used and the base material from which the denture is made. At Adlard Dental we do dentures only one way; the right way. After all, isn't anything worth doing, worth doing right the first time? The beautiful teeth we use in a patients final denture (ask us why we use a healing denture) come in many shades, shapes, and sizes so we can match them to the patient. Our female patients require a feminine
arrangement and tooth shape while the male patient is just the opposite. When you have the time, look at pictures of nice looking people in any of the popular magazines and notice how their teeth look and then imagine how that same person would look if their teeth had receded up under their lip until they hardly showed.
